The Kandal Crop Research Sub-Centre is one of the two (2) sub-centres under the Kandal Crop Research Center funded by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Kandal Crop Research Centre, one of the 6 independent centers under the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. The Kandal crop research sub-centre is located in Ward No. 8 of Sadar Upazila on the north side of Pran Kendra Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra district. Its geographical location: latitude-24.510 and longitude-89.180. The total area of the center is 8.79 hectares. The Institute was established in 1977 as Potato Research Centre. Parvati was named Kandal Crop Research Center in 1988. Designation of Center Head: Chief Scientific Officer (Grade 4 of National Pay Scale). It consists of 7 disciplines of the center (Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Soil and Water Irrigation Management, Agricultural Engineering and Postharvest Management and Agricultural Economics and Socio-Social Management), which cover potato, sweet potato, kachu, cassava and yam crops. Conducted research activities on production, physiology, breeding methods, biotechnology, plant nutrition, irrigation, intercare, seed production, disease and pest control, post-harvest management and socio-economic, marketing and value chain, research impact assessment at farmer level etc. and research results are disseminated to farmers through the Directorate of Agricultural Extension and Field Research Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. At present research activities on about 49 (unop) domestic and foreign kandal crops are being conducted in the Kandal Crop Research Sub-centre. A total of 143 varieties and various sustainable technologies have been developed so far on 5 Kandal crops by the Kandal Crop Research Sub-Centre.
